The records of the CRC are concerned mainly with Rhode Island and the northeast United States and deal peripherally with national and international programs. Included in the records are correspondence, reports, research data, statistics, project proposals, budget data, minutes, receipts, invoices, reference materials, publications, drafts of theses and dissertations, audio tapes, maps, transparencies, photographs and news clippings. The most significant topics documented by these records are salt pond studies (1949-1990; bulk 1977-1985), Narragansett Bay studies (1931-1990; bulk 1973-1986) and energy studies (1969-1983). The administrative files (1972-1988) contain records generated by or revelant to the internal functioning and operations of the CRC and the private, state, and federal agencies associated with its mission.

The Coastal Resources Center (CRC) was founded at the University of Rhode Island in 1971 to assist Rhode Island in developing policies and programs to manage the state's coastal resources, fisheries and energy.
